Sequim Bay Yacht & Sailing Club
2024 Reach for Hospice Regatta

September 21, 2024

Notice of Race

The Sequim Bay Yacht Club invites all PHRF racers and cruisers to the 2024

SBYC Reach for Hospice Regatta at the John Wayne Marina in Sequim,

Washington. A charity supper ($20/plate) and dessert auction will be available

immediately after the awards ceremony.

Date: Saturday, September 21, 2024:

Rules: The series will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of

Sailing (RRS) 2021-2024, except as modified by the Sailing Instructions.

Eligibility: This regatta is open to all competitors. Yacht club membership is not

required. Eligible participants may enter by completing a registration form with the

required fee at the skipper’s meeting.

Entry Fee: This regatta is a fundraiser for the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam

County. One hundred percent of all proceeds go to this cause. The entry fee is a

donation; the more, the merrier. There is no upper limit, though $50 is the

minimum donation. All crew members, friends, family, distant relations, and

businesses are welcome and highly encouraged to donate to this worthy cause.

There is an unofficial competition between boats to see how much money they can

raise. Make checks payable to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County or VHOCC.

Please include your boat name on the check.

Registration: Entry forms and fees shall be turned in prior to the skipper’s

meeting at 10:30. Registration opens at 9:30.

Classes: With enough entries, there may be three classes based on PHRF handicap.

Each class shall have a minimum of three boats. If a boat does not have a handicap,

a temporary non-negotiable handicap will be assigned. In this case, the skipper

must notify the Fleet Captain by September 14 of his intention to race so that a

handicap can be researched.2

Class A – All boats with handicaps less than or equal to 135

(NOTE – If three or more multihulls enter, they will be given a class to

themselves, but race with Class A)

Class B – All boats with handicaps greater than 135

Class C – All cruising boats racing with no spinnakers

Sailing Instructions: Sailing Instructions are available online at

https://sequimbayyacht.club/reach-for-hospice

Schedule:

9:30 am - Registration and signup. Waivers signed

10:30 pm – Skipper’s Meeting

12:00 pm - First race starts.

The intent is for racing to be complete by 4:00 pm.

Course: Courses will typically be windward/leeward and may include a gybe

mark. Multiple windward marks may be set in case of a wind shift.

Scoring:

A boat's series score will be the total of her race scores. There will be no “throw-

outs.” This changes RRS A2. One race will constitute a series.

Moorage. Moorage may be available at the transient dock or at individual slips in

John Wayne Marina. Contact the marina office to make reservations.

Prizes: There will be an awards presentation after the regatta and immediately

before the charity supper.

Disclaimer of Liability: Competitors participate in SBYC Reach for Hospice

Regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule RRS 4, Decision to Race. The

organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal

injury, or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the

regatta. Every crew member shall sign a waiver prior to racing if not already on

file.

Insurance: Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability

insurance with a minimum cover of $300,000 per incident or the equivalent.
